St. Francis high school reunion fast approaching

MORGANTOWN — After missing 2020, the St. Francis High School all-class reunion is back for a busy series of events June 25-27.

The two-day reunion starts at 1 p.m. June 25 with a golf outing at the Pines Country Club, alumni association president and reunion organizer Todd Gregg said. There are 88 registered golfers so far.

Friday evening, the alumni will meet at Kegler’s clubhouse where friends are more than welcome, Gregg said.

Saturday starts at 9a .m. at Ellis Field at White Park with a co-ed softball game against Morgantown High School alum, Gregg said. This year, St. Francis’ team will be coached by Bob Beatty and Bob Musick, the head coach and assistant coach of the 1977 Catholic state baseball championship team.

Everyone is welcome to bring a chair, bring a cooler, and come watch the game, Gregg said. The St. Francis team is made up mostly of alumni from the 1980s and everyone will be 50 or older. The reason for that is St. Francis High School ended in 1990.

Saturday night is the hall of fame dinner and the response for attendance has been “overwhelming” and “non-stop” for Gregg and his vice president Lori Quartermon-Martin, with over 200 people planning to attend.

Alumni will come from as far as California. In years past an alumni from Alaska has attended, Gregg said. In total, there will be attendees from 28 states.

“We definitely have it covered from coast to coast, east and west, north and south,” Gregg said.

There will be six new inductees to the hall of fame, Gregg said. Joe Wiltsey, from the class of 1961, Mark Perry, from the class of 1979, and Paul Keener, from the class of 1986, will be inducted into the athletic hall of fame. Robert Alexander, from the class of 1963, Sandra Gentile, of 1977, and Dave Della-Giustina, from the class of 1983, will be inducted into the lifetime achievement hall of fame.

A new award will be presented for the first time, the armed forces award, which will be given to an alumni who served in the military. Gregg said the award is in honor of Rusty Cyzick, a 1981 St. Francis graduate who joined the Marines and died in the 1983 suicide bombings at the Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon.

Gregg said there will also be a remembrance of Coach Tony Fragale, a hall of fame member who died of cancer in 2020, and a recognition of the 1980 state championship basketball team.

“So, we have a lot,” he said.

After the hall of fame dinner there is a public afterparty at the Erickson Alumni Center.
