She was born January 13, 1932, in Morgantown, to William and Lena Vorbach, the fifth of nine children born to that union. On June 22, 1952, she married Jim Mattingly, when they were each 20 years old. Jim was in the Army, stationed in Alaska, and Bonnie joined him there. He was born July 2, 1949, in Beckley, a son of the late Nathan Paul and Bonnie Marie Mills Cole. Gary lived his life quietly, with strength, dedication, and a deep love for his family.
