In support of Arlie Campbell for magistrate

I endorse Arlie Campbell for Division 4 Magistrate in the forthcoming Monongalia County election. We have been friends for over 40 years, and I wish to share with the readers why I think he will be the kind of magistrate we need.

Arlie is always willing to help others, as demonstrated by his contributions to our county. He has served as a coach in many youth sports, as a foster parent for a child — including supporting him through post secondary education — and as an advocate in Special Olympics. He also helped young adults complete community service hours through the Monongalia County Probation Office.

On a personal level, I have witnessed his kindness, compassion and humor. He didn’t hesitate to come to my aid when I needed a strong hand in repairing a drifting dock on Cheat Lake. He also was a cheerleader in my rehabilitation when I was hospitalized after heart surgery and a stroke.

I also can attest to how hard he works and how talented he is. I admire the home he built and farm he developed in rural Monongalia County.

Most of all, he has the qualities we need in the magistrate office. Arlie has had many life experiences, so he will recognize the issues involved in the cases that come before him. He will treat each person with dignity, listen to their side and make his decision based upon the facts presented.

In support of Stephen Smith for governor

A problem cannot be solved using the same tools that caused the problem! West Virginia is largely controlled by out-of-state interests. As a result, many of the profits flow out of the state. West Virginia needs Stephen Smith as governor. He is committed to getting rid of corruption and unidentified money in politics.

Our government is corrupt, not like organized crime, but because wealthy interests dictate policies and tax breaks. The rich have consistently asked us to put our faith in them. It has never worked. Our politicians should be like NASCAR drivers and have their sponsors plastered all over their suits.

West Virginia is one of the richest states in natural resources in the U.S. Our gas, coal and even oil are staples. We have hardworking, resourceful people. Last year, we generated more wealth than ever before in the history of the state. Yet our overall poverty rate increased in each of the last three years.

Stephen Smith and more than 90 other candidates signed the pledge to accept no corporate contributions nor dark Political Action Committee monies. On May 14, he unveiled a comprehensive integrated New Deal, which supports teachers, veterans, affordable health care, seniors, small West Virginia businesses, working people and even provides a summer youth jobs program. He espouses a $15 per hour minimum wage. He will not cross a picket like.

Stephen Smith’s New Deal for West Virginia has the power to transform our state. He is providing a roadmap to a functioning economy, improved education, better roads, internet across the state, greater health, life satisfaction and prosperity.

It’s time for radical change: West Virginia Can’t Wait! It’s time that West Virginia resources primarily serve our residents.

In support of Debra Scudiere for judge

I am writing to express support for Judge Debra Scudiere in her campaign for Circuit Court Judge in Monongalia County. Judge Scudiere spent her career demonstrating leadership among her peers and in her community.

Judge Scudiere was a high school French and English teacher prior to attending law school, and she later served as an adjunct litigation lecturer at the West Virginia University College of Law.

Judge Scudiere is well-respected among judges and attorneys as a mediator and civic leader, including as the past president of the West Virginia State Bar. Her fair and pragmatic approach to decision-making, as well as her overall sense of fairness and equity, make her the best choice for circuit court judge in Monongalia County.
