Clay-Battelle goes 1-2 in state 100m hurdles with Carreon, Ammons

CHARLESTON — Clay-Battelle senior Hailey Carreon, not satisfied with being a state runner-up last year in the 100 meter hurdles, won the crown Saturday.

“It’s a long-time coming. I really wanted it last year, but finished second. This year it was do-or-die,” she said.

Carreon won in 15.72 seconds, while her teammate Addison Ammons took second place at 16.09.

“They dominated the field, and we got 18 points right there,” C-B coach Ted Cline said. “They both ran superb races.”

Carreon’s sister Hannah was a two-time state champion who still holds the West Virginia Class A record in the event.
