WVU defensive lineman Tyrese Allen enters transfer portal

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — West Virginia defensive tackle Tyrese Allen has entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Allen is a redshirt freshman from Paintsville, Ky. who did not play last season. The 6-foot-3, 297-pound defensive tackle was a three-star signee in the Class of 2018. He was behind Darius Stills and Brennon Thrift on the depth chart.
WVU coach Neal Brown has already said that the Mountaineers are potentially looking for additional depth on the defensive line from a transfer.
Allen’s younger brother, Jaylyn, is a Class of 2020 linebacker who just committed to FCS Eastern Kentucky. Tyrese would be eligible to play immediately if he transfers down to the FCS level.
Allen is still able to return to West Virginia after entering his name in the portal, which simply allows other schools to contact him. Wide receiver Marcus Simms also entered the portal this week, but has stated his intention to leave WVU.
