Will Grier says he’s fine after being hit late by a Kansas defender

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — At the end of a third-down scramble in West Virginia’s 38-22 win against Kansas on Saturday, Will Grier saw tacklers closing in and made a feet-first slide.

Nonetheless, Kansas linebacker Joe Dineen and another defender popped him as he hit the turf.

Grier’s helmet came off and he stood with arms raised expecting a flag that never came.

Coach Dana Holgorsen marched out on the field in protest.

The officials gave “no explanation,” Grier said. “But that’s fine. I’m in one piece and we’re moving forward.”

It wasn’t one of Grier’s best games, even though he was 28 of 41 for 332 yards and four touchdowns. Grier was twice intercepted by Kansas cornerback Hasan Defense in the end zone and was picked off again 10 seconds before halftime by Davon Ferguson at the goal line.
