MORGANTOWN — With Labor Day weekend in full swing, local business Defense in Depth (DID) held its first ever Food Truck Festival at the store in Sabraton.
Guests had the chance to sample eats from some local food trucks, including Pyles of Pasta, 3-0 Pho To-Go and Hash Browns & New Grounds. The store was also abuzz with shopping patrons who took advantage of several Labor Day specials.
Savannah Ashworth, marketing coordinator, said DID wanted to do something big for Labor Day weekend and decided food would be a great way to get the community involved.
“We had a really good turnout. Luckily the Morgantown community has been really great to us, so we’re excited and we will be doing this again next year,” she said.
DID hosts many different events for the community. The business also offers training classes, because, Ashworth said, training in their No. 1 priority.
“So just safety training for anyone, even those who don’t want to use a firearm. We have hand-to-hand self-defense. We have training classes that focus on pepper spray and lethal materials, and then we do have weekly and monthly events,” she said.
Recently, Defense In Depth held events for an animal shelter, date nights, and a bike night with Triple S Harley Davidson.
“So we do things all the time,” she said.
Patrons could partake in a shooting simulator for free Saturday. The simulator offers a 180-degree, 33-foot-long screen with over 800 training scenarios. She said there are also some fun ones, such as zombie hunts and western shootouts.
Aside from browsing the options in the showroom, guests had the opportunity to win tickets to Kennywood or a Lady Antebellum concert.
Even though the business offers firearm training and a store, Ashworth said the main goal is preparing people to handle dangerous situations.
“We don’t want it to be intimidating. We take pride in having a very comfortable atmosphere, and I myself am a new shooter. I was not familiar before starting this position, so we’re welcoming everybody,” she said.
Labor Day sales will continue throughout the entire weekend.
