Australian punter leaves WVU football team

MORGANTOWN — Australian punter Angus Davies has left the West Virginia football program after only a few days on campus.
A source said he quickly became homesick and wouldn’t rejoin the team.
Davies later tweeted:
“It comes with great regret that I have passed up the opportunity to study and play football at West Virginia University. With the support of WVU, ProKick Australia, and my family, I have come home to seek support for my mental health. Go Mountaineers”
The 6-foot-4 Davies committed to West Virginia last November, but had not signed his letter of intent.
After training at ProKick Australia, the punter factory that produced Texas All-American Michael Dickson, Davies figured to push Morgantown product Billy Kinney this season. Kinney’s 40.9-yard average ranked 70th in the FBS during 2017 and WVU finished 103rd from 129 teams in net punting.
