WVU Mountaineer passes rifle on to new mascot

MORGANTOWN — Trevor Keiss participated in the “Passing of the Rifle” ceremony making him the new official West Virginia University Mountaineer Mascot.
Previous Mountaineer Troy Clemons passed the rifle to him during a ceremony that took place on Friday at the Erickson Alumni Center at 4:30 p.m.
Kiess is a senior from Elkins, majoring in accounting.
Addressing the crowd, Keiss turned to the previous mascots and said, “You guys were my idol growing up. As a kid from West Virginia, it doesn’t get any better than this. … You guys are my role models. And to now be considered in the same category as you gentlemen and Troy, means absolutely the world to me. And this is the greatest honor of my life.”
