WV Humanities Council to host “History Alive!” event

MORGANTOWN — History and literature lovers alike will soon get the chance to go back in time.

The West Virginia Humanities Council presents History Alive! at the West Virginia Honor’s College March 27, with help from funding by Read Aloud West Virginia of Monongalia County.

Event goers will have the opportunity to see Mark Twain as portrayed by Doug Riley. History Alive! programs give the audience a chance to learn about events through the eyes of an important figure that shaped history.

Mark Twain, the pen name of Samuel Clemens, is considered by many one of America’s greatest authors as well as a humorist.

“I think if you look back through history, he’s probably the most noted author that we have in American history. He really brought about a change of focus in American writers,” said Riley.

Ernest Hemmingway, thought to be one of the many great American Novelists said, “All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn.”
