Melissa Cooper

Melissa Kaye Cooper, 26, of Kingwood,  passed away with her family by her side on Friday, January 18, 2019, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Melissa was born on March 2, 1992, in Ft. Polk, La., a daughter of Gary Franklin Copper Jr. and his fiancée Heather Whittaker of Albright,  and Cindy (Gordy) Cooper and fiancé Richard “Dick” Coddington Jr., of Bruceton Mills.

Melissa was a 2010 graduate of Preston High School, in Kingwood, and a 2014 graduate of the Art Institute, in Pittsburgh. She loved working with her art projects, Fur Comicon, and especially loved travel on Amtrak and loved life.

In addition to her parents she is survived by her brothers and sisters, Cody and Kristi Cooper, of Nemalcolin, Pa., Taylor Cooper, of Bruceton Mills,  Hunter Whittaker, of Albright, and Nicole Coddington and partner John Collins, of Deer Park, Md.; her Aunt Melynda “Mac” (Cooper) and husband, Chris Jones, of Waynesburg, Pa.; maternal grandparents, Gerald and Louise Welch, of Hicks, La. and Jeanette and Robert Gordy, of Hicks, La.; and Honorary grandmother, Ma Ma Aunt Kala Gordy, of Hicks, La.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Gary and Linda (Maxwell) Cooper.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price, from noon on Monday, Jan. 21, until  the 2 p.m. memorial service  with the Rev. Kelly Gamble officiating. Cremation was handled by the Rotruck-Lobb Crematory at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Kingwood.
