Lois Dewitt Emsweller

Lois Dewitt Emsweller, a beloved wife, mother, and woman of deep faith, passed away May 10, 2026 in Marysville, Ohio, following a long illness.
She was born on May 1, 1936, one of four children of the late Ira and Mabel McDonald Dewitt, in Rowlesburg, West Virginia, where she spent her early years before pursuing higher education at West Virginia University, graduating with a degree in English.
Lois married Raymond J. Emsweller, and together they shared 57 years of devoted partnership until his passing in 2013. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, commitment, and mutual devotion. Above all else, Lois cherished her role as a wife and mother, giving selflessly to her family throughout her life.
A graduate of West Virginia University, Lois carried with her a lifelong love of learning and curiosity about the wider world. She had a passion for traveling abroad, exploring new cultures and places with an open heart and adventurous spirit. These journeys enriched her life and brought her great joy, and she treasured the memories and experiences she gathered along the way.
Lois was a devout Catholic whose faith was central to every aspect of her life. She was a dedicated member of the Oblates of St. Meinrad, a spiritual community through which she deepened her relationship with God and lived out her commitment to prayer, service, and contemplation. Her faith sustained her through life’s greatest joys and its most profound sorrows, and it remained a source of comfort and strength throughout her long illness. Those who knew her witnessed a woman whose devotion was not merely spoken but lived daily with grace and quiet conviction.
Including her husband and parents, Lois was preceded in death by her two sons, Raymond P. Emsweller and Edward J. Emsweller; and two brothers: Robert and Gene Dewitt.
She is survived by her sister Betty Cannon; daughters, Pam Turner and Debbie Emsweller; as well as her grandchildren Brooke Summers, David Turner, and Lauren Campbell who held special places in her life and heart.
Lois will be laid to rest alongside her husband and sons at Resurrection Cemetery in Lewis Center, Ohio, in a private service attended by immediate family.
In her passing, she is reunited with those she loved so dearly, and her memory will continue to bless all who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in eternal peace.
