City of Fairmont accepting applications for District 5 council seat

FAIRMONT – The administrative search to fill the now-empty District 5 seat on Fairmont City Council is underway.

Said seat was left vacant by the untimely death two weeks ago of longtime incumbent Chuck Warner.

Letters of interest and resumes will be accepted through noon Feb. 4, the city said. All documents may be received by City Clerk Janet Keller, in Room 312 of the J. Harper Meredith Building, 200 Jackson St.

The district takes in First through Fourth streets, along with portions of View Avenue, Locust Avenue to Field Street and a section of the Sterling Heights neighborhood.

Warner, 81, would have been up for reelection Nov. 3.

He first became known in the city as radio personality at WMMN-AM and parlayed his name recognition and photography hobby into a lucrative business after he left broadcasting.

The councilman and shutterbug specialized in portrait and landscape photography at his Warner Photography Studio on First Street.

His signature were the aerial shots he’d snap from the cockpit – he was also a licensed pilot – in the days before drone photography made such work commonplace.

As a councilmember, Warner was marked by his measured approach tempered with a droll sense of humor.

“Chuck was an example of a life of service to his community,” the city said after his death.
