FAIRMONT – While the Tygart Valley United Way fell just short of its 2026 campaign goal, CEO Brett White was both hopeful and philosophical, as he watched people filing into the wrap-up luncheon Thursday at the Robert Mollohan Research Center.
This year’s campaign netted $541,500, White reported – which came in under the original benchmark of $605,000 for the outreach agency.
It was the first time in 20 years the campaign didn’t make goal, he also noted.
Even so, every cent, he said, packs a social wallop.
That’s because Tygart Valley United Way helps support 42 programs in 30 human services endeavors across Marion, Randolph, Taylor, Barbour and Tucker counties.
In turn, he said, that translates to a lot people and a lot of households in need across a big swath of the Mountain State.
The luncheon, meanwhile, recognized some shining stars from the campaign, including the Rotary Club of South Fairmont, which raised $75,000 from its annual holiday Christmas lights celebration at Morris Park.
Businesses lauded for their in-house giving campaigns included Harry Green Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, WVU Medicine Fairmont, EQT Foundation and Huntington Banks.

White said while it was to get together and tell people that they are appreciated, it’s now time to look to 2027.
“We are incredibly grateful for every person and partner who invested in this year’s campaign,” the CEO said. “This moment is an opportunity. It encourages us to listen, adapt and evolve.”
