MORGANTOWN – A Garrett County, Maryland, man is facing one count of first-degree murder after a stabbing Sunday at the Morgantown Motel.

According to a press release from Monongalia County Sheriff Todd Forbes, deputies responded to the reported stabbing to find an adult woman suffering from a severe stab wound to the chest. While rendering first aid, deputies were able to learn from the victim that her assailant was Karol A. Crosco, 49.
The victim was transported by Mon EMS to Ruby Memorial Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Witnesses at the scene provided deputies with a description of the suspect’s vehicle, which was broadcast to surrounding law enforcement agencies. Officers with the Morgantown Police Department subsequently located the vehicle, conducted a traffic stop and detained the driver, identified as Crosco.
The vehicle Crosco was operating had been reported stolen from the Grafton Road area earlier the same day. Crosco was observed with blood on his clothes at the time of his arrest. When interviewed by detectives, he admitted to stealing the vehicle and stabbing the victim.
In addition to one count of first-degree murder, Crosco has been charged with one count of grand larceny.
