MORGANTOWN — The final fair in Monongalia County is set to kick off Monday night at 7 p.m. bringing a week full of fun events for the whole family, ranging from rodeos to Texas Roadhouse roll eating contests.
The festivities kick off Monday night with the Monongalia County Fair Parade coming through downtown Morgantown at 7 p.m.
The gates to the fairgrounds at Mylan Park will open Tuesday evening at 5 p.m. with the rides starting up at 6 p.m., said Eric Finch, vice president of the Monongalia County Fair Board of Directors.
“Stuff gets started at 6 with amusement rides opening,” he said. “We’ll introduce our queens on stage and announce the children’s photo contest winner. We also have the Texas Roadhouse roll eating competition and a dodgeball tournament.”
Finch added registration is still open and available for the roll eating contest and the dodgeball tournament.
Finch noted Ryan Cain and the Ables will be the entertainment Tuesday night.
Wednesday night at the fair is reserved for worship night, Finch said.
“Entertainment that night is Josh Oldaker and Soldiers and Sons,” he said. “Josh will probably be heavy on the Christian music that night, and Soldiers and Sons is a Christian group. We also have a flag football tournament and then an ATV obstacle course.”
Registration is still open for the flag football tournament, Finch added.
Thursday night and Friday night are when things really pick up, Finch said.
“Thursday night and Friday night is when we have our rodeo,” he said. “The Bucking B Rodeo sponsored by Northeast Natural Energy. The rodeo itself starts at 7 p.m. while mutton busting begins at 6 p.m. on both days.”
Thursday’s entertainment is Silas Hunter Matheny and on Friday the entertainment is KC Johns, Finch added.
Saturday is the final day of the Monongalia County Fair.
“The gates open at noon on Saturday,” Finch said. “Saturday is also kids day sponsored by Hope Gas which allows the first 300 kids to get into the fair for free. We have our car show at noon, our hot dog eating contest, our Powerwheel derby and our live entertainment is the Steamboat Gamblers.”
Finch added the fairgrounds have been inverted due to the building of the new ice rink at Mylan Park.
Finch noted this year there is a wider variety of different food vendors at the fair this year.
Gate admission is $15 daily or $60 for a weekly pass.
