Charles Root

Charles Edward Root, 88, passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021, at his residence after a brief illness.
He was born in Eglon, on Sept. 29, 1932, a son of the late John Root and the late Freda Fike Root.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Dean Howell Root; two sons, David Allen Root and Dana, of Morgantown, and Brian James Root and wife Robin, of Morgantown; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Terry Lynn Lipscomb; and two sisters, Wanda Roth and Gladys Radabaugh.

He was a proud United States Air Force Veteran serving 22 years and retiring with the rank of master sergeant after serving during the Korean conflict and in Vietnam. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge 10 in Morgantown. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and making homemade wine. Most of all, he was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his grandkids.

Friends may join the family to honor Charles’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover/Morgantown, from 5 p.m., Wednesday, April 28, until the time of the funeral service at 7 p.m., officiated by Pastor Dan Meadows. Following the funeral service, Charles will be cremated and inurned with full military honors in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, at 1 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2021.
