Marie Tennant

Marie Tennant, 77, passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on April 8, 2021. Marie was born in Daybrook, on April 10, 1943, the fifth child born to the late John William Barr and Martha Ellen Carpenter Barr.

Marie worked as a homemaker, raising her daughters and caring for her grandchildren whenever needed. She enjoyed spending time with her family, attending family functions, and sporting events for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed bingo, attending the Clay District Fair, where she was a fair director for many years, sitting on her porch, visiting with many family members and friends in person and on the phone and loved anything red.

Marie leaves behind her daughters, Cindy Sanders, of Daybrook, and Sally Eddy (Fred II), of Daybrook; step-daughter, Robin Haught; grandchildren: Whitney Slagle (Matt), Levi Sanders, Becca Sanders, Robbie Eddy (Leslie), Danielle Wilson (Alex) and Karma Fletcher; and great-grandchildren: Kylie, Paige and Alex Slagle, Braxton and Reese Eddy and Callista, Wesley, Hattie, Ruth and Saylee Wilson. Also surviving include brothers: Everett “Jake” Barr (Dorothy), John “Junie” Barr Jr. (Anna Ruth), Bill Barr (Linda) and James “Jim” Barr (Nola); her sister, Jeannie Simpson (Gary); and a sister-in-law, Deloris “Dukie” Barr, all of Daybrook, and many extended family members, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bobby” Tennant; two sons-in-law, Mike Sanders and Fred Haught; brothers, Leroy “Buck” Barr and Harry “Budgie” Barr; infant sisters, Alice Barr and Emma Barr; and her stepmother, Lena Barr.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Morgantown Amedisys Hospice; especially Marie’s nurses, Melissa, Molly and Sarah; and her niece, Lisa Ann Staten Shaver for all of the guidance, compassion and care shown to Marie and her family in their time of need.

Friends are invited to gather at McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Morgantown, from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, April 11. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. Monday, April 12 until the 11 a.m. funeral service with Pastor Fred Eddy II officiating. Marie will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Bobby, at the Daybrook Cemetery.
