Bernice Tomer

Bernice V. Tomer, of Westover, went home to be with the Lord at the age of 81. She passed peacefully at her home on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021. Bernice was born Nov. 14, 1939, in Mt. Morris, Pa., daughter to Earl and Velma Stump Sponaugle.

Bernice was a graduate of Mt. Morris High School and attended different colleges. Bernice loved her family, church, flower gardens, cooking, crafts and children. She owned and operated a daycare most of her life. She and her husband, the Rev. Tomer, pastored several churches in the area. Together they also traveled and sang with a quartette.

She is survived by her husband of 60 and a half years, the Rev. David Tomer; one daughter, Deniece Tomer, of Westover; son, Daniel (deceased), daughter-in-law Leila and their two children, Deilan and Caitlin, of Huntingtown, Md.; and sisters, Wandalea Hicks and Macel Zimmerman (John) of Orlando, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Daniel; two sisters, Freeda and Arlene Stout; and her brothers, Earl “Bloxie” and Willis Sponaugle, all of Mt. Morris, Pa.

Private services will be conducted by her husband, the Rev. David Tomer. She will be laid to rest at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
