Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia Inc. announced the establishment of the Christian Help Endowment Fund of $100,000 to support the organizational needs of Christian Help Inc.

The  fund will generate investment income for the organization for years to come and create long-term sustainability. Christian Help hopes to become 100% sustainable with the help of the endowment, which will allow 100% of donations to support clients in direct aid.

“We serve a vulnerable population in the community and want people to be able to invest directly,” said Colleen Lankford, executive director of Christian Help. “This endowment allows us to honor the legacies of volunteers who have invested their time into Christian Help, while also preparing for the future.”

Lankford’s goal for the endowment is to reach $5 million by Christian Help’s 50th anniversary, which is in five years.

Investment income from the endowment will cover expenses and upkeep of the Christian Help building, service expenses and employee salaries. Christian Help is on Walnut Street in downtown Morgantown.

The mission of Christian Help is to respond to situations of emergency and need with immediacy and simplicity, respecting the dignity of people.

“Christian Help has been a prominent charity in the community for nearly a half century,” said Patty Showers Ryan, YCF president. “YCF appreciates the opportunity to assist Christian Help with their strategic financial plan. COVID-19 has reminded all nonprofits the importance of diversifying income.”

Christian Help is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. Throughout the years, the organization has established a variety of services for people in need. Christian Help offers emergency financial assistance, a food pantry, free store, career closets and life skills courses, all free of charge.
