Wilma Stafford

Wilma Stafford died at home on November 6, 2020, after battling cancer. She was born 75 years ago in Erwin on Feb. 12, 1945 a daughter of the late Lloyd and Mary Loughrey Moats.

She loved to read, talk to friends, laugh, reminisce about the past and make new friends. She was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever needed. She loved taking care of her home, her husband and her daughter. She attended the Etam United Methodist Church and coordinated her family reunions for years. Wilma held many jobs, each giving her joy, but her favorite jobs were being a homemaker and working in finance. Math was also a favorite. She was a member of Cannon Hill, VFW Post #3008 Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Rodney Stafford; her daughter, Cynthia Van Stafford; her brother, Carl Todd Moats and wife Wanda, of Rowlesburg; her sister, Bearldean Evans and husband Ernest “Sonny” of Kerens; her niece, who was like a sister, Phyllis Lipscomb and companion Jay, of Reidsville, N.C.; her nephew, Donald Moats and wife Tressa, of Rowlesburg; and many other beloved nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Jack Moats, Ray Moats, Gladys Moats, Margie Moats, Franklin “Bink” Moats, Jimmie “Jim” Moats, Paul Moats, Lavada “Tuck” Moats and Harold Moats.

Friends may call at the Burke Funeral Home in Rowlesburg from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10 with Pastor Justin Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Aurora Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of WV Caring, WVU Cancer Center and Preston Memorial Hospital for their care of Wilma during her illness.

During the visitation and funeral, social distancing will be observed and masks are required.
