Gregory Spransy

Gregory Cox Spransy, 77, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020.

Greg was a 1961 graduate of Riverside High School in Milwaukee, Wis. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in economics in 1966 from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In 1969, he served in the United States Army at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C., being honorably discharged in 1973. He pursued his career as an occupational safety officer at The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, NIOSH, for 30-plus years until his retirement.

Greg enjoyed playing golf, visiting with friends, participating in reading groups, bridge club and attending/ volunteering for his Unitarian church. Greg would listen to his favorite music daily, which would include jazz, classical or a Stephen Sondheim musical. His alacrity was contagious and added in his superpower to make people laugh.

Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dilys Spransy, and brother William.

Greg was the first of five children and is survived by Ann, Dorothy and Charles; his ex-wife and friend Leslie; and his adult children, Ben, Martha, and Kim. He is also survived by all of his beloved grandchildren, Joseph, Noah, Blake, Warren, James and little Angelynn and many cousins, nieces and nephew.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his favorite organization, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at WVU.
