Charles LaPoe

Charles “Mark” LaPoe, of Core, died quietly at home surrounded by his loving family on Aug. 1, 2020. He was born on Oct. 4, 1961, in Clare, Mich. He is the son of the late Charles Edgar LaPoe and Delores Lee Tennant LaPoe. Mark is preceded in death by his son, Chad Martin.

Mark was a 1979 graduate of East Fairmont High School. He was a sportsman who hunted and fished and loved being outdoors in nature his entire life. Mark had many skills and occupations throughout his work life to include coal mining, building and maintenance and restaurant work. He took great pride in his work ethic and skillsets. Mark grew up on a farm and was closely tied to the land. In later life, despite chronic health issues, he enjoyed his garden, chickens and raising other animals on his farm as he was able. Mark enjoyed watching and cheering on the Mountaineers.

Mark is survived by his wife, Nancy Martin LaPoe; his daughters, Kelly Webber and her husband Matthew, of Core, and Shelly Tennant and her husband Eric, of Wadestown; son, Brian Martin, of Morgantown; and his grandchildren, Samuel Tennant, Devin Webber and his wife Haley, Kaitlin Webber and Goldie Tennant. He has one great-grandchild, Raylee Webber. He is also survived by his brothers, Ben LaPoe and his wife Bonnie, of Core, Allen LaPoe and his wife Linda, of Cleveland; and sister, Yvonne “Rusty” Cook and her husband, of Middletown, Ill. Mark has several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank WV Caring. There are so many other wonderful care providers and each are appreciated. Viewing services will be held at Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020, and funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, with the burial following and Alan Adams officiating the service. Mark will be laid to rest at the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Mount Morris, Pa. There will be food served following the burial at the Blacksville Social Hall. Please remember to wear a face mask.
