Free COVID-19 Testing

Attendees must bring acceptable identification

Free COVID-19 testing continues today in Monongalia and Preston counties. In Mon County, testing is set for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at 661 Green Bag Road — Mountainview Elementary School.

In Preston, testing will be offered from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Kingwood Elementary, 207 S. Price St., Kingwood.

Those driving downtown Friday perhaps wondered why their morning commute took a little longer than usual. Testing at Morgantown Farmer’s Market on  Spruce Street was the culprit. Many showed up in their cars and on foot to take part, despite the scorching temperatures.

Monongalia and Preston counties are two of  five counties throughout the state where the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources  offered the testing Friday and today, as part of   Gov. Jim Justice’s initiative to increase  testing opportunities. The others are Marshall, Mercer and Wayne counties. DHHR  received support from local health departments, and state and community partners.

While open to anyone in the community, Marshall, Monongalia, Preston and Wayne counties were selected as part of the Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs, DHHR and the West Virginia National Guard testing initiative focused on counties and communities with high African American populations given the disparities by race being seen with COVID-19  nationally and in West Virginia.

Mercer County was selected as part of the ongoing effort to expand testing opportunities in areas with evidence of COVID-19 community transmission.

Attendees should bring identification, such as a driver’s license or proof of address, to help in returning test results. Those under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

The testing is free and available to all residents in selected counties, including asymptomatic individuals.
