Preston County claims Cares Act money for road improvements

KINGWOOD — The Preston County Commission held an emergency meeting Tuesday afternoon  to endorse the proposed West Virginia CARES Act Projects for Preston County.

County Administrator Kathy Mace said her office was notified at 2:50 p.m. by Division of Highways District 4 Engineer Darby Clayton that there was an opportunity for some CARES Act funds for road work, but an endorsement would have to come by June 30.

Funds from the CARES Act will be used for the following projects:

  • W.Va.  26 Tunnelton Drainage, $500,000
  • Raccoon Valley Road (County 39), $1.5 million
  • U.S.  50, $500,000. A second project  on U.S.   50 will cost $480,000.

According to commissioners, the proposed projects were chosen because they are critical in the transporting of residents to nearby medical/emergency facilities.
