Preston Commissioners want to meet with DOH

KINGWOOD — Preston County Commissioners talked Tuesday about renewing their road updates from the State Division of Highways (DOH).

Prior to closing its meetings to the public because of the coronavirus, commissioners met at least monthly with District 4 and county DOH officials.

Commission President Samantha Stone said the commission gets daily email updates from the DOH, but they are for the entire district. Commissioner Dave Price read examples from a recent report, which included information on mowing and patching of roads.

“I just think as big as the operation is they know what they’ll be doing in July,” Price said.

In response to an inquiry from The Dominion Post, Stone said she would ask the county technology director to upload the daily update to the county’s website, www.prestoncountywv.gov, and/or Facebook page, Preston County Commission WV.

County Administrator Kathy Mace said she would try to arrange a Zoom meeting for July 21 with the county and district DOH supervisors, if meetings are still closed. The media asked to be included in that meeting.

In other discussions, Mace said:

  • the Community Corrections program is in negotiations to rent the Dailey Building, on Court Street. The commission would have to be a party to the lease but all financial responsibility would rest with the program.
  • the space rented by the county in the Kingwood Plaza will be used for early voting before the general election.
  • she would provide the volunteer fire department’s association and ambulance association with contact information for state and federal elected officials, so they can lobby for funding. Stone asked that this be done.
