Senate Minority Leader Roman Prezioso, D-Marion, is retiring, leaving the seat open. The Republicans facing off in the June 9 primary are Rebecca Polis and John Provins, both of Fairmont.

Here is a look at the 1st Quarter campaign finance reports for the three. Caputo, a longtime delegate who served as House majority whip and then as minority whip when the GOP took the majority has a significant fundraising lead based on his long House incumbency.

Caputo came into the first quarter with $23,306.64 in his campaign account. He raised $18,852.74.

Polis is a newcomer and began the period with $0. She raised $9,500.27, including $500 she gave her campaign. She also lent her campaign $200.

She spent $3,450.88, leaving a balance of $6,249.39.

Provins, likewise a newcomer, also began with $0. He gave his campaign
$400 and received another $720 at a Pleasant Valley fundraiser in March.

He spent almost his entire account, $1,114.59. Of that, the fundraiser cost $473.89, so it netted only $246.11.

He ended the period with $5.41 in his campaign account.
