Genevieve “Susie” Holmes

Genevieve V. “Susie” Holmes, 92, of Reedsville, passed away, Thursday, May 14, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Tunnelton, on March 29, 1928, a daughter of the late Albert Bowmar and Bessie (Pyles) Bowmar.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Susie was postmaster at the Reedsville Post Office for many years. She was a lifelong member of the Reedsville Methodist Church. Susie enjoyed quilting and traveling.

Susie is survived by her two daughters, Paulette Shrout and husband Chuck, of Arthurdale, and Patricia Ellen Stafford, of Reedsville; one brother, John Bowmar, of North Highlands, Calif.; one sister, Linda Liston, of Albright; three grandchildren, Wendy Barrett (Ryan), Jennifer Polce (Tony) and Matthew Shrout (Diane Edwards); and two great-grandchildren, Tony Polce Jr. and Maddox Polce.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Paul Holmes; two brothers, William Bowmar and Robert Bowmar; and one granddaughter, Heather Stafford.

Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown, W.Va. from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 17. A private family service will be held with the Rev. Dr. David Spence officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Kingwood.

Due to COVID-19, safety precautions will be taken, with that in mind the 6-foot rule will be honored and all guests, whose health allows, are to wear a mask. For the safety of everyone, we politely ask that visitors do not linger at the funeral home after seeing the Holmes family.
