Make-A-Wish hosts online volunteer training April 30

Children who are living with critical illnesses need the power of a wish. Learn how to change a child’s life from the comfort of home by attending a virtual wish-granting volunteer training.

The Make-A-Wish regional office in Northern West Virginia is hosting an online volunteer training for those interested in giving back to the local community. The training will take place via Zoom on from 6-7:30 p.m. April 30.

To become a wish volunteer, individuals must be at least 21 years of age, pass a criminal background check and attend a one-time training session.

Make-A-Wish is looking for new volunteers in Barbour, Berkeley, Braxton, Brooke, Doddridge, Gilmer, Grant, Hampshire, Hancock, Hardy, Harrison, Jefferson, Lewis, Marion, Marshall, Mineral, Monongalia, Morgan, Ohio, Pendleton, Pleasants, Pocahontas, Preston, Randolph, Ritchie, Taylor, Tyler, Tucker, Upshur, Webster, Wetzel and Wood counties.

As members of “wish teams,” volunteers are the faces of Make-A-Wish in local communities. The “wish team” is assigned to a child in their area, meets one-on-one with the family and aids in determining the most suitable wish for the child.

To sign up, visit the Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia Facebook event page, “Virtual Volunteer Training — Northeastern West Virginia,” at facebook.com /events/258943771968591. Once there, click “Reserve a Spot” and provide email address and phone number so the office can send the Zoom invitation.

More wish kids are waiting than ever before. For more information, contact regional manager Jackie Auten at 304-292-5600 or jauten@greater pawv.wish.org.
