WVU Core Arboretum and W.V. Botanic Gardens in bloom for early spring

Those who venture outside to get some fresh air and exercise will notice a little more color dotting the landscape, as spring flowers continue to bloom.

The WVU Core Arboretum and West Virginia Botanic Garden are just a couple of places that offer easy access to see everything from tulips to bluebells.

Typically the arboretum hosts a series of spring wildflower walks put on by the WVU department of biology.

While the ongoing coronavirus pandemic caused the walks to be canceled, that doesn’t stop Mother Nature from showing her colors. The arboretum reports that flowers are ahead of schedule because of the mild winter and early spring weather, so everything is in bloom.

Like the arboretum, the WVBG offers a variety of trails, in addition to its gardens.

While exercising or relaxing outdoors, be sure to follow Centers for Disease Control social distancing guidelines, as limiting face-to-face contact with others is the best way to reduce the spread of coronavirus.

This includes staying at least 6 feet from other people and following guidance from area officials. Gov. Jim Justice has ordered that Monongalia County residents limit groups to a maximum of five people, while the Monongalia County Health Department recommends all individuals wear masks when they go out.
