The Glass Factory

‘No -man’s land’ to be home to offices and retail space

Construction taking place in “no-man’s land” between Star City and Morgantown is the responsibility of Accelerated Construction Services, according to Star City Mayor Herman Reid and the construction company itself.

Across University Avenue from St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Star City, a construction site has opened up. The sign at the site advertises the upcoming development of The Glass Factory.

Despite the site being directly across from St. Mary’s, it rests in what Reid referred to as “no-man’s land.” “[The land] is in-between Star City and Morgantown, and it’s within the county’s control,” Reid explained. According to Reid, Star City does supply water and sewage to the area, but the town has no say in what is built there.

However, Reid is welcoming of the construction and excited about the addition to the area.

“We were very glad to see [the construction] because there were some old, decrepit trailers and an old yellow house on that property,” Reid said. “It’s going to be a nice improvement there to University Avenue.”

Michael Allen, president of Accelerated Construction Services, said that while construction on The Glass Factory began just three weeks ago, the project is expected to be completed in mid-summer.  “[The] owner is in negotiations with potential tenants,” Allen said.

Leasing options in the 17,000-square-foot building include offices, retail and more.

According to an April 7 post to the Accelerated Construction Services official Facebook page, construction on The Glass Factory is moving forward despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The post reads: “The Glass Factory site is continuing to take shape near Star City and Morgantown, WV.”
