Restaurants still offering take-out

KINGWOOD — Preston area restaurant owners said they are staying open to serve the public through pick-up meals and deliveries.

They also hope to lessen the economic impact of the shut down. On Tuesday, Gov. Jim Justice ordered all restaurants, bars and casinos to close, later clarifying bars and restaurants could remain open for take-out.

Jean Guillot, owner of The Preston County Inn in Kingwood, said the coronavirus is putting a strain on all dine-in businesses. He said without eat-in customers he might have to lay off some employees.

The Inn is offering both take-out and delivery. Guillot said he will still offer the complete menu with limited salad bar. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Phone

A spokesman for Melanie’s Family Restaurant in Aurora said the restaurant will provide free meals for school-age children 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

The restaurant will be offering take-out only from its complete menu, including salad.

Hours for take-out will be 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday. Phone 304-735-3219 to place orders.

Rodney Wolfe, owner of Old School Pizza in Reedsville, said he is asking customers to call in orders and the staff will deliver it to them in the parking lot. The restaurant will continue to have all the items on the menu available.

“This (coronavirus) is going to make a big difference,” he said. “Folks used to come in each lunch. A lot dined in at dinner. Now people are more hesitant to eat out. It’s a difficult process, but we have to be safe.” Old School Pizza is closed Monday, open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1-7 p.m. Sunday. Down Home Diner will be offering its complete menu for take out. It will also continue to offer their daily specials and salads, according to owner Sarah Davis. Davis said going from sit-down meals to take-out will effect her budget.

She said until further notice the diner will be open daily 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Phone 304-329-6122.

Monroe’s in Kingwood will also offer both delivery and take out, according to owner Jimmy Maier. Maier said customers can call. Monroe’s will offer its complete menu.

Spent Grain Cafe (Screech Owl Brewery), Bruceton will offer take-out from a limited menu and growler exchange. Steak night and all specials have been canceled.
“We’re doing all we can to put a little money in the pockets of our employees, a spokesman for the company said.

High Mountain Grill in Terra Alta will be offering both take-out and delivery from its full menu. Hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday. Phone 304-789-1104.
