West Virginia baseball team gets ready to host Liberty

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The West Virginia baseball team returns home to host Liberty at 3 p.m. Wednesday, at Monongalia County Ballpark.

The Mountaineers and Flames are set to meet for the seventh time Wednesday. The last time the two schools met in 2013, West Virginia took two-of-three games over Liberty, in Lynchburg, Va.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Tyler Strechay (1-1, 5.00 ERA) takes the mound for WVU. In his last outing, the Collegeville, Pa., native tossed five perfect innings and earned his first career win in an 8-0 win over Kent State. Four WVU pitchers combined to no-hit the Golden Flashes, the first in Monongalia County Ballpark history. Liberty will counter with redshirt sophomore right-hander Mason Hand (3-0, 0.54 ERA).

WVU (10-5), which is off to its best 15-game start since 2016, is coming off a series win at Mercer.

Liberty (10-6), which travels to Morgantown for just the second time ever and first since 1977, is led by fourth-year coach Scott Jackson, who holds a 117-76 mark with the Flames. After being swept at Clemson to begin the season, LU topped Radford, took two-of-three from Seton Hall and won five in a row over Longwood, Marist and Elon. Most recently, the Flames fell to then-No. 22 East Carolina, before winning a three-game set over Kent State last weekend.

Tickets for the contest are available at wvugame.com, by calling 1-800-WVU GAME, at the Mountaineer Ticket Office inside the WVU Coliseum or on game day at the ballpark. Fans will have the opportunity to play Baseball Bingo with prizes available to winners.

Admission for WVU students is free with a valid student I.D.
