River Trails Conservancy approves sign placements

REEDSVILLE — The Mon River Trails Conservancy has approved the map of sign placements from the trail head on West Street to Church Street, according to Reedsville Recorder Sandy Kisner.

According to Kisner, the Conservancy asked if the town will pay for and install the signs. Councilwoman Britney Titus made a motion to buy five more blank signs that can be printed for the trail. The town has five in stock.

Councilwoman Renee Stone questioned the purchase.

“What is the total cost going to be?” she asked. “I believe they can pick up some of the cost. I didn’t know we would be doing eight signs.”

Councilman Greg Burke said the town already has breakaway poles that can be used for the signs.

“I’m voting no,” Stone said. “I can’t see the benefit of it.”

Council also discussed a local residence with trash on the porch.

“We can have Paul (town police officer Paul Rowan) talk to the owner. He can see what they are doing and give them a deadline to have it done in,” Titus said. “If they are building, he can see if they have a permit.”

“Paul has told them two or three times to clean it up,” Burke said.

“I think we should call the health department and the fire department,” Stone said. “We need to look up our ordinance.”

“We can have Paul write them a citation for parking on the sidewalk and for the garbage they have on the sidewalk,” Titus offered.

No further action was taken.

Council also discussed paying the City of Kingwood to bring its street sweeper to clean the streets.

“I talked with them about it and they are supposed to get back to me with a price,” Burke said.

In other business, no decision was made about selling a Durango previously used by the town police officer.

At an earlier meeting, council voted to lease a police car from the county for $1 per month. The leased car was fully outfitted and has all wheel drive.

“It (the Durango) has electrical problems but it has a new motor and a good transmission,” Burke said. “We’ll have to remove our equipment, light bar, siren and radio first.”

The next meeting of Reedsville Council will be 6:30 p.m. March 23.
