Morgantown shuts down Fairmont Senior 72-33 on senior night

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Morgantown boys’ basketball team ended their regular season home series on a high note, defeating visiting Fairmont Senior, 72-33.

Senior Alex Rudy and junior Carson Poffenberger led the charge with 16 and 10 points, respectively, helping push the Mohigans (17-3) to a monster 39-10 lead at the half. The Polar Bears (7-12) were unable to keep up in the second managing 23 points to Morgantown’s 33.

Trey Washenitz paced the Polar Bears in the loss, putting in 18 points off six buckets and a 3 of 4 performance from the free throw line.

Morgantown returns to action on Tuesday with a road game at Parkersburg High. It’s the Mohigans’ second-to-last game of the season before they head to Wheeling Park on Saturday, Feb. 29.

The win also marked MHS’s senior night. Rudy, Mac McMillen, Antonio Rollo and Lonnie Borom were all recognized.

Morgantown 80, Fairmont Senior 33: The Mohigans JV team crushed the Polar Bears 80-33, as Rocco Morgano and Jalen Goins each had 12 points. Yazan Hanif (11) and Luke Dalton (10) combined for another 21 in the swamping win.
