West Virginia baseball team set to host Canisius in home opener

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The West Virginia baseball team returns to Morgantown to play the earliest home opener in program history against Canisius at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Monongalia County Ballpark.

The Mountaineers and Golden Griffins are set to meet for the 15th time this afternoon. Last season, West Virginia earned a 5-4 win over Canisius on Feb. 19 in Morgantown.

WVU (2-1) opened the 2020 campaign by taking two of three games against Jacksonville this past weekend, in Jacksonville, Fla.

Canisius (1-3) is led by third-year coach Matt Mazurek, who holds a 60-52 mark with the Golden Griffins. The squad opened the season by dropping three of four contests to UMass-Lowell, in Holly Springs, N.C.
