Clay-Battelle girls’ basketball routs Meadow Bridge 44-19 in HIT game

BLACKSVILLE, W.Va. — Clay-Battelle (9-4) held their ground in the West Virginia HIT Tournament Saturday, defeating visitor Meadow Bridge in grand fashion, 44-19.

Although no Cee-Bees found double digits, they exploded in the first quarter to go on a 20-0 run before leading 25-8 at the half. Clay-Battelle maintained maximum pressure in the second half, outscoring Meadow Bridge (3-9) 19-11 to seal the victory.

Joleigh Sollars and Kendal Saul led the Cee-Bees with eight points a piece. Senior Annabelle Woods paced the Wildcats with eight points.

Clay-Battelle returns to action on Monday with a home game against rival Trinity Christian.

Trinity falls to Greater Beckley Christian 66-39

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Trinity Christian wasn’t able to redeem its last weekend loss to Greater Beckley Christian on Saturday, falling to GBC 66-39.

The Warriors (6-9) started out going shot for shot with the Crusaders (10-3), ending the first quarter down four 12-8, but a scoreless second quarter and 16-point run for GBC put them down for good.

TCS managed to net 23 points in the second half, but GBC was far ahead outscoring the Warriors by 17.

Fletcher Hartsock led the Warriors with 15 points, and Seth Goins added 10. Isiah Hairston led the Crusaders with 16 points, while Sean Haskins (13) and Kaden Smallwood (10) rounded out the double-digit scoring.

Trinity returns to action on Monday at 7 p.m. as the Warriors welcome Wood County Christian on Senior Night.
In JV action, Trinity defeated GBC 58-51 behind a 21-point performance by Gavin Jackson. Peyton Dixon tossed in 15 to help push the Warriors in the win. Mossy Bayang paced the Crusaders with 16 points.
