Salvation Army celebrates 154th Christmas

Now serving in 127 countries and every zip code inside the United States, The Salvation Army is one of the most well-known charitable organizations throughout the world.

While the world and agency have changed over the last 154 years since The Salvation Army was born, one thing has remained true, The Salvation Army is a people-focused, ever-changing living organism that works to reflect the needs of the communities in which it serves.

From its humble start on the streets of Eastern London, The Salvation Army has grown into an international phenomenon that aids in disasters of every kind, from wide-scale natural disasters to the disasters of today that happen throughout our community, without anyone ever even knowing. From fire and flood to helping families avoid homelessness and hunger, The Salvation Army remains a steadfast refuge for all community members to turn to.

For over 150 years, The Salvation Army has served. At Christmases since 1891, The Salvation Army has stood outside local establishments asking community members to support their neighbors by investing in The Salvation Army mission.

“We work to meet every need that walks through our door,” said John Fahey, longtime advisory board member of the Morgantown Salvation Army. “Without the support and help of our community in this time of year, we would not be able to meet that goal. It is our hope that we will still be meeting the needs of this county in another 150 years.”
