PREP ROUNDUP: Musselman hands Morgantown fourth loss, wins 43-40 in hectic road game

Sports@DominionPost.com

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Allison Burdette led Musselman with 18 points as the only double-digit scorer in the Lady Applemen’s, 43-40, hectic road win over Morgantown.

Having to switch gyms to University’s spare at the last minute due to a water leak in the MHS gym and a varsity-JV game-time flip, Musselman took advantage of Morgantown’s slow 2-point first quarter start to enter the half up seven points. The Mohigans (1-4) returned from the break to take the lead, but let it slip away down the stretch as Musselman clinched its third win.

“So far [the problem] through the five games is our starts,” Morgantown coach Jason White said. “We have to figure out how to start faster and be a better first half team — especially for how young we are.”

Jordan Kerr (7), Janaia Fargo (6) and Makayla Ambrose (5) combined for another 18 points for the Lady Applemen. Kaitlyn Ammons led the Mohigans with 13 points in the loss, while Berit Johnson tossed in nine more. Cat Wassick and Lindsey Bechtel combined for 14 points, with seven a piece.

Morgantown returns to action on Dec. 21 with a home game against Martinsburg.
