West Virginia women’s basketball team comes in at No. 22 in new AP poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Following the team’s upset of then-No. 10 Mississippi State, the West Virginia women’s basketball team checked in at No. 22 in the latest Associated Press top 25 poll, which was announced Monday.

The Mountaineers (6-1) received 106 points in this week’s poll to rank No. 22. West Virginia is just 14 points behind No. 21 Arkansas and 10 points ahead of No. 23 Tennessee.

WVU is one of two Big 12 teams to appear in the latest rankings. Baylor (8-1) checked in at No. 6 this week, receiving 598 points. WVU nonconference opponent Michigan State (6-2) received 150 points and came in at No. 19 this week.

Following Sunday’s upset win, Mississippi State (8-2) dropped five spots to No. 15 and received 349 points in this week’s poll.

The Mountaineers next compete at 4 p.m. Sunday as the team travels to Charleston to face off with Norfolk State at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
