University Avenue through Star City closed for Christmas parade Friday

Mayor Herman Reid said 50-some units will begin lining up at 5:30 p.m. Friday at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church on University Avenue.

This will be for the town’s annual Christmas parade, which should last about an hour.

University Avenue through Star City will be closed for the duration. Detours will be on Broadway Avenue to Fairfield Street. Junior Avenue is also a designated detour route, Reid said.

Behind city hall, there will be tents with nachos, cookies, hot chocolate and coffee — all free.

Santa will be inside city hall and kids will be able to visit him, get their photo taken and receive a small gift bag, Reid said. A face painter, balloon maker and The WOW! Factory will also be inside city hall.

Reid said people should enter city hall through the back door.
