Morgantown girls’ basketball team earns 41-34 win in season-opener at Shadyside

SHADYSIDE, Ohio — After a slow start offensively and defensively in its season opener Wednesday night, the Morgantown girls’ basketball team rallied in the second half to beat Shadyside (Ohio), 41-34.

“I’m really proud of the kids in the second half,” coach Jason White said. “We turned it over far too much in the first half, but to hold that team to 34 points is unheard of. They’re known for their ability to shoot the 3 — our defensive awareness was significantly better in the second half than the first.”

The Mohigans (1-0) were led by Kaitlyn Ammons, with 17 points, followed by 11 points from Cat Wassick. Tory Hendershot led Shadyside (2-2) with 17 points.

MHS will play in the Frank Hines Memorial Classic in Fairmont this weekend. Its first game is at 5 p.m. Friday against Lincoln.
