Susan Slider

Susan Denise Slider, 56, of Fairmont, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Dec. 18, 1962, in Fairmont, a daughter of Robert “Butch” Lee Slider and Beverly Ann (Williams) Slider, of Williams Crossroads.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sisters, Theresa Barber, of Fairmont, and Kathleen Smith and her husband Benjamin, of Farmington W.Va.; and her loving nieces and nephews, Allison Mara Stine, Janelle Renee Smith, Nettie Mae Barber, Charles Ray Barber and Robert Lee Barber.

Also surviving are her grandmothers, Hallie Mae Williams and Rosalie Slider, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Susan was a graduate of East Fairmont High School in 1981 and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from WVU in 1985. She worked for 35 years at West Virginia University as a Research Assistant II in the Division of Animal and Nutritional Sciences. She was well respected by students and faculty for her knowledge and technical skills and the many contributions she made to teaching and research.

She was an active leader with the Cross Roads 4-H Club. She enjoyed all crafts: quilting, crocheting, knitting and especially spinning. She was active with the Fiber Guild and especially enjoyed teaching children the art of spinning yarn. She was also an avid W.V.U. sports fan.

She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Charles Barber, and her grandfathers, Williams Earl Slider Sr. and Harold Sherwood Williams.

Family and friends are welcome to call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont from 1-8 p.m. on Thursday and from 9 a.m. on Friday until the service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ruth Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
