A variety of Christmas happenings scheduled in Preston

KINGWOOD — Several Christmas events are planned for the coming weeks around Preston County.

The Bruceton Mills Lion’s Club will hold an old-fashioned community Christmas homecoming at 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at Bruceton School. From 7 to 9 p.m., Santa and Mrs. Claus will welcome children ages 10 and under to visit and draw from the North Pole treasure box. At 6 p.m., the parade of lights will begin at the Bruceton baseball field and end at Bruceton School.

Main Street Kingwood will hold its annual Christmas Parade at 3 p.m. Dec. 7. Santa will be giving out gifts at the McGrew House immediately after the parade. The annual tree-lighting will follow at 4 p.m. at McGrew House. Kingwood Parks and Recreation will hold its Holiday Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Craig Civic Center. Numerous vendors and crafts will be available as well as concessions and a silent auction. Admission to the bazaar will be a non-perishable food item for local food pantries. The McGrew Society’s annual Souper Taste of Christmas will be from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 8, at McGrew House in Kingwood. A buffet of 11 soups, along with a variety of home-baked breads and wassail, will be available for $9. The McGrew Gift Shoppe will feature several special gift items, including classic American-made toys and the combination offer of Bill Williams’ history of Kingwood and the biography James C. McGrew: Statesman and Servant.

Rowlesburg will hold a Christkindlmarkt (European Style Christmas Market) from 9 a.m.-3 p. m. Dec. 14. at the Szilagyi Center Auditorium. Live music, shopping, soups and weisswurst comes with a complimentary taste of homemade Gluhwein (mulled wine) spiced tea or hot cider. Cold drinks or coffee will also be available. Admission is free. Bring a non-perishable item and deposit it in the box at the entry. This donation will help stock the local food pantry.

The Christmas Flutopia will be at 4:30 p.m. Dec 15 at the Szilagyi Center. Janet Szilagyi will be on hand to play a Christmas tune on the antique pump organ. The concert is free. Any flutists interested in playing at the concert can contact Janet Szilagyi at jlsz@aol.com.
