Cut-Christmas tree market begins Monday

Starting Monday, more than 300 fresh-cut pine trees will be for sale from 10 a.m.-10 p.m., in front of Golden Corral, off Monongahela Boulevard.

The sellers plan to be there until Dec. 24.

This is the fourth year Randy Furbee has set up the tent in that location, he said. However, his dad has been in the Christmas tree industry for over 20 years, he said.

Trees range in size from 5 feet to 14 feet and if a customer finds a tree they like that’s too big, it can be cut down on the spot to fit their home, Furbee said. The Christmas trees start at $30 and top out at $80.

The tent holds about 70 trees, and fresh trees — harvested deep in the mountains of Pennsylvania, near Altoona — will be delivered each week.

A variety of wreaths — made on site — will be available as well and as with the trees, if the size a customer wants isn’t available, the perfect size can be made on the spot, Furbee said.
