Mobile home on Sun Rise Drive burns; dogs saved

Volunteer firefighters and EMS give oxygen to 3 dogs that were in Bernie Murray’s mobile home when it caught fire at 9 Sun Rise Drive, a trailer park off of Tyrone Road.

Days after burying his wife, a county resident likely lost his home to a Monday afternoon trailer fire.

The Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Department responded to 9 Sun Rise Drive shortly after noon to find the residence of Bernie Murray on fire.

Brookhaven VFD Assistant Chief Zach Lipscomb said Murray was not at home when the fire started, but his three dogs were in the trailer.

“One they got out right off the bat. The other two ended up being found by firefighters. We brought them out and gave them oxygen and now they’re doing wonderful,” Lipscomb said of the pets.

Lipscomb said the cause of the blaze is not known. The state fire marshal was called in to investigate the scene.

He went on to say it’s likely the trailer will be a total loss, though he wasn’t willing to make that determination at the time of this report.

Along with Brookhaven VFD, Granville VFD responded with the county tanker. Volunteer crews from Star City and Cheat Lake were also on the scene.

Neighbors said Murray just recently lost his wife.

According to an obituary published in The Dominion Post, Pam Murray, 64, passed away at home on Oct. 13.
