West Virginia women’s soccer hosts Oklahoma in hopes to snap two-game skid

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia (7-6-1, 2-3 Big 12) hosts Oklahoma (8-5-3, 3-2-1 Big 12) for its final match of a three-game homestand Sunday at 3 p.m.

The Mountaineers enter the match after falling to No. 15 Oklahoma State on Thursday, while the Sooners are on a two-game win streak after defeating Iowa State on Thursday. A win for WVU would snap its two-game skid.

“Oklahoma is a team that has been getting solid results so far this season,” WVU coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. “They are playing great defense and aren’t giving up a lot of goals, so we have to do our jobs on the offensive side of things to get points against a great opponent.”

Redshirt senior Kaylee Dao leads Oklahoma with 26 points and 13 goals. Dao’s goals also leads the conference, and her points per game (1.62) rank her second in the league.

The Mountaineers and Sooners last faced each other in the quarterfinals of the 2018 Big 12 Soccer Championship, where then-No. 13 WVU routed the Sooners 3-0.

Sunday marks the 11th meeting between the two teams, with WVU reigning unbeaten at 9-0-1. Additionally, the Mountaineers have outscored the Sooners 24-4 in the last 10 matches.
