West Virginia falls to No. 15 Oklahoma State 2-1

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Mountaineers (7-6-1, 2-3-0 Big 12) picked up their second-straight conference loss on Thursday, falling to No. 15 Oklahoma State, 2-1.

The Cowgirls’ (11-1-3, 4-1-1 Big 12) goals both came in the first half. Kim Rodriguez struck first in the 13th minute, and Grace Yochum added OSU’s second and final goal just before the 29th minute on an assist by Olyvia Dowell. It was Yochum’s eighth goal of the season.

“I didn’t think the first half was our best half performance, but I thought we turned it around in the second half,” Coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. “You have to give OSU credit for finding two (goals), unfortunately, we couldn’t find the second goal to equalize.”

Juliana Lynch connected on a pass by Lizzie Mayfield to net her first goal of the season and put WVU on the board in the final 10 minutes of play.

West Virginia outshot OSU 13-9 and put four more shots on goal than the Cowgirls, but Dani Greenlee was on fire at the net to log seven saves.

Addison Clarke put all three of her shots on goal for the Mountaineers, while Lynch’s only shot of the night was WVU’s lone goal.

Rylee Foster returned after sitting out the Texas Tech game for medical reasons, ending the night with two saves.

WVU also held a 6-1 advantage in corners.
