West Virginia set to face high-scoring Oklahoma State

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — The West Virginia women’s soccer team will host 15th-ranked Olahoma State at 7 p.m. Thursday at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

“Oklahoma State is a very experienced team that has had a lot of success thus far, so we are going to have our hands full,” WVU head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. “They are very dangerous in the attack and with set pieces, so we have to stay focused for 90 minutes.”

It will be the 10th all-time meeting against Oklahoma State and WVU has never lost to the Cowboys, while outscoring them, 16-5.

The Mountaineers (7-5-1) are coming off a 1-0 loss against No. 13 Texas Tech, in which the Red Raiders scored the lone goal on a penalty kick.

West Virginia mounted a late attack, earning two corner kicks in the final three minutes, but could not produce a goal as the Red Raiders secured its first win over WVU since 2015.

WVU leads the Big 12 Conference with 7.85 corner kicks per game this season. WVU also has outscored its opponents, 24-18.

Oklahoma State (10-1-3) enters the match riding a four-match unbeaten streak after knocking off Texas, 2-0, on Oct. 11. The highly-explosive Oklahoma State offense leads the Big 12 in scoring offense (2.43) and total goals (34), while ranking second in points per game (6.71).

Senior Jaci Jones leads the OSU in points (21) and assists (9) this season. Sophomore Grace Yochum paces OSU with seven goals.
