Morgantown defeats Brooke in three sets on the road; UHS boys soccer blanked by Mountain Ridge at home

WELLSBURG — Following Tuesday’s fast paced game against Parkersburg South, the Morgantown volleyball team tacked on another shutout win Thursday, defeating Brooke 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-16)

The Mohigans (12-7-1) were led by junior Alayna Corwin with 11 kills, four aces and 11 digs. McKayla Mills (5) and Grace Washburn (4) combined for nine kills, while  Washburn added three aces. Setter Brooke Lyons contributed nine digs and 15 assists.

Clay-Battelle 1, South Harrison 3 

Clay-Battelle (5-10) hosted South Harrison Thursday night, falling 3-1.

South Harrison took sets 1, 3 and 4 (25-22, 25-19, 25-22), while C-B claimed set 225-23. 

Autumn Stewart led the attack with 13 kills, while  Camren Watson added  12 kills and 4 blocks.  Evie Rush had a team-high 17 assists.   

PREP SOCCER

Trinity 5 , Notre Dame 1

CLARKSBURG — Trinity Christian (8-6-1)  upended Notre Dame on its home pitch, as Noah Kurilko pulled off a hat trick to take the match 5-1.

Kyle Knight netted one goal and had one assist. Katrina Hyde added the final goal on a penalty kick into the corner — her first-ever high school goal.

Trinity next faces the St. Marys Blue Devils Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Marys.

University 0, Mountain Ridge 2

MORGANTOWN — University (10-5) fell to Mountain Ridge (Md.) 2-0 in Thurday’s nonconference match.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with a home game against  Jefferson.

MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL

Trinity 42, Braxton County 6

SUTTON — Trinity Christian extended its perfect record to 4-0 with a big 42-6 win over Braxton County Middle on Thursday.

Jaylan Hill led the team with three touchdowns — one passing, one rushing and one receiving. James Fortney added two scores in total, one passing and one rushing, and kicker Lydia Knight went 6 for 6 on extra point attempts. 

Trinity next hits the road on Oct. 10 to face Pleasants County.
